Hand mixer or Magimix? - This one is comparing apples and oranges - a mixer versus processor, they do completely different jobs, but over the two I would prefer Magimix for the variety of tasks it performs.

Oven: gas or electric? - Gas

Sponge or fruit cake? - Sponge, it's delicious.

Sprinkles or chocolate? - Chocolate.

Guilty food secret: Black liquorice.

Favourite type of cake to eat: Chocolate torte, something layered with a sinful creamy filling, macadamia nuts and bing cherries -- I am adding kilos to myself just thinking and writing about it. I still love a fabulous old fashioned Black Forrest cake.

Favourite type of cake to make: One that I invented, Ginger Rosella Pecan Cake has a dacquoise of pecans and tons of layered creamy goodies.

Ingredient you can't live without: It would have to be a basic Nielsen Massey Vanilla, Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla.

Kitchen equipment you can't live without: KitchenAid mixer

What's in your fridge at home right now: Fresh vegetables: I am a fresh produce lady, I go to the growers, who are quite near me and pick up the best of the day as it comes off the truck.

Favourite meal of the day: Evening home-prepared meal then sitting down with my husband Doug, we love to eat together and share the business of the day.

Favourite food market: Unique grocery stores; wherever I live or travel around the world a grocery store is the first place I go. One learns so much about local culture when one knows what people are eating. When I lived in England in the seventies my favourites were Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury's, augmented by a weekly shop to Church Street fresh produce market.

Top recession cooking tip: Buy and freeze expensive unique ingredients when they are on sale for unparalleled taste and flavour. Join a wholesale club dedicated to restaurant supply, share the membership with friends or business colleagues and plan to shop once a month together. Have a social lunch together first and make the list. Huge packages of product can be way too much for one person or a small business needs but split between three or four the savings are huge and ingredients superior.
